So basically what everyone here is saying is that they both suck?
Do either of these two guarantee speed?
Would it be better if neighborhood associations got together and purchased T1 lines with guaranteed speeds and just wirelessed their neighborhoods and paid for it with the association fees?
Just a thought.

I agree about the hurricane issue but I tend to disagree a little about the speed. I believe they offer different speed packages. I have no real issues as I have the fastest speed possible with comcast. Also, no contract just commitment.

I'm on the west side of houston.

PS...my power was out for almost a month after that hurricane. No power no internet. However, it took them an additional two weeks to get my internet running. However, they prorated my bill for the time lost. You had to call them and request it though. They didn't do it without asking for it.

maybe, some of those guys who told u and advised u to use comcast, have the outsourced contracts with comcast co. to provide services.... u never know, they register a business in their own choice of name while they have a license and rep from other major companies as well aka authorized service/reseller.... just a deeper plundering

AT&T's little gray Motorola 2210 modem is very hot and has a lifespan of <1 year. I've had 4 replaced so far. If you can talk to the service reps (the newer ones don't know what they're doing and simply go down a laundry list but be patient) and wait 1-3 days to get a new modem every year, the service is not too bad. I've never reached 1.7 mbps download and 0.5 upload even though it was advertised for 3.0/0.5.

I finally terminated my relationship with Comcast for all of the reasons previously mentioned. I was tired of their outrageous fees, extremely poor customer service and the service people who show up randomly and just throw cable in the middle of your yard or flower bed. Worthless service and I am sooo happy to be done with Comcast. Finally the frustration of dealing with incompetent tech support is over!

Approximately every 4-5 months, we have consistent connectivy issues... and with out fail, every time requires multiple (useless) visits froma tech who may or may not show up on time and multiple calls to the call center (with a variety of techs with great to zero technical and personal skills). Each time...real 'fixes' require hunting down and placing several calls to the corporate office.

Once again... we're having problems, 4 days now. No information, no answers...hell they can't even be consistent on wether area work is being done etc.

I also agree about comcast. Slower and slower every month. VERY poor customer service. No managers ever call back. Errors and many hours on phone to solve errors from employee end.

Same thing in Colorado, when they took over there as well. I was in CO for 12 yrs.

I live in Pecan Park in SE Houston and have Comcast (formerly Time Warner). When I started it was blazingly fast but over the years it got slower and slower until now I'm getting a mere 400 to 500kps in the evening, slower than DSL. This morning there was a four minute lag to connect to the mail server. If you want to surf the net at 3am it would be okay, I guess, but during the day and evening it is overloaded.

I have comcast but I am very dis-satisfied with them how they handled the outage after hurricane IKE. They do not care about their customers and have not issued the credit they bragged about to the Houston Chronicle. Comcast said they WOULD ISSUE FULL CREDIT for time you did not recieve. I called, I sent emails and letter but not response at all. I am not in the AT&T area, even thought my sister down the street has AT&T internet, it seems I'm at the end of the line. IS THERE ANYONE ELSE THAT PROVIDES HIGH SPEED INTERENT.
