Luanne, you should look into Straight Talk or Virgin Mobile aircards. These are prepaid and sometimes have a hotspot device. They often get their service from Verizon but unlike Verizon give you unlimited internet so this means you don’t have to pay the 25 cens per MB you go over with Verizon anymore. Worth looking at.

Aircards are available as prepaid now and you can get them in Walmart. What I have seen is that the aircards from Virgin Mobile and other sub mobile companies license their internet service from Verizon but offer a more flexible prepay option. For $50 a month you can get a prepaid aircard and only pay the months you use it. Some of these aircards are hotspots so they act as a wireless router. Imagine paying $50 a month for unlimited internet with a device already setup to act as a wireless router. These devices are now available in certain areas and are often found in Walmart. I live in Tyler Texas and have two different prepaid access point aircards.

I have a verizon aircard and have used it for a number of years. When I signed my contract, I was told I could upgrade the aircard every two years to the latest aircard. My contract is unlimited usuage. Now, Verizon has done away with that contract and have made no provisions to upgrade the older aircard to their new 4g system. They refuse to upgrade my aircard and allow me to remain on my contract. Before you decide to go with Verizon, check them out real good. They will lie thru their teeth to get you and continue to lie when it benefits them to change your plan or refuse to honor it any longer. They suck when it comes to integrity and honesty.

Who has the most affordable air card? Can you use them with desktop computors and get a router so a laptop can also be used?

Is there an unlimited plan?

We have used both the AT&T Sierra card (aircard) and the Verizon aircard. We cancelled the AT&T early because the connection was so poor that we couldn’t even download YouTube stuff; the connection wasn’t much better than the dial up we had cancelled. That was almost 3 years ago so they could have improved the service since then. The great thing about the AT&T card was that it was unlimited; I’ve since heard that that is no longer the case. The Verizon aircard works wonderfully. Our only complaint with it was that you were charged .25 a mb if you go over you limited 5G’s. Also, the device that tells you how much you have used is ALWAYS a minimum of 24 hours behind so there is no adequate way of knowing if you are over or not or how much over you are. I would like to change to Sprint, but since my phones are with Verizon and I have 1.5+ years left on my plan I won’t be switching to Sprint until it expires. Sprints aircard is cheaper than Verizon for the same 5G’s and they only charge .05 per mb if you go over. But if you don’t have your phones with Sprint then the aircard price is the same as Verizon with the exception of cheaper rate if you go over your 5G’s.

Have you done a “return on Investment” evaluation of the Aircard to show how much money a person can save by canceling cable Internet services at two or more locations (I.e. home and “lake place”) leaving just one monthly bill for Internet? Does the wireless card allow a person to do without a standard cell phone as well, if they are willing to connect to phone by computer?

Most providers are not going to allow you to use two aircards even though it is for the same service. They will want you to buy another service plan for the additional card. What I recommend doing is buying a cradlepoint router and just plug your aircard into it. You can take the router with you wherever you go and plug it into an electric outlet. This will allow you to have a wireless hotspot multiple computers and users can have access to. You can buy the router here which is the same one I use at my home: Cradlepoint Router I agree that having the ability to have two aircards on the same service should be an option but I have not found a provider who will do it. In the same way I know of no cell phone companies that will let you run the same cell phone coverage on more then one phone without upgrading your service and giving you two separate numbers.

Can I use 2 different aircards for the same broadband service on 2 different laptops. I have 2 laptops @ 2 different locations and don’t want to transport aircard to each location. Can i have 2 aircards & work off the same service.
